Awais Invites LONGi to Set Up Solar Panels Plant in Pakistan

As the question of whether Pakistan manufactures solar panels gains importance, the nation is poised to make a significant leap in its capabilities. Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, recently invited LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd. to establish a solar PV manufacturing plant in the country. This strategic move underscores Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy options and reducing its carbon footprint.

Pakistan’s Solar Panel Plant Initiative

Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari recently met with Zhenguo Li, President of LONGi Green Energy Company, to formally invite the company to establish a solar PV manufacturing plant in Pakistan. The initiative aims to leverage the nation’s abundant solar potential and increase its share of renewable energy.

The minister highlighted Pakistan’s significant solar energy potential, stating: “With our comparative advantage in solar energy production and abundant sunshine, the government is committed to increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.”

With an average solar irradiance of 5.3 kWh/m²/day and approximately 300 sunny days annually, Pakistan presents an ideal environment for solar power generation. In response, Mr. Zhenguo Li pledged to support Pakistan’s solar energy development and foster closer cooperation for mutual benefit.

Establishing a solar panel manufacturing plant in Pakistan could revolutionize the country’s energy sector by enhancing energy security, driving economic growth, and fostering technological advancement.

Job Creation and Economic Growth

A local solar panel manufacturing plant would create numerous job opportunities across the value chain, from manufacturing and installation to maintenance and operations.

Such an investment would significantly boost the local economy. According to a 2018 study from IRENA, Pakistan’s transition to renewable energy could generate over 1 million jobs by 2030, creating substantial employment opportunities.

A domestic solar PV plant would also contribute to enhanced energy security by reducing the country’s reliance on imported fossil fuels, which currently account for 25% of its energy needs.

By increasing domestic renewable energy production, Pakistan can reduce its vulnerability to fluctuations in international energy markets. The collaboration would also strengthen Pakistan’s clean energy sector and technological capabilities by facilitating the transfer of advanced solar technologies and best practices.

Such a partnership would enhance the efficiency and reliability of the country’s solar energy infrastructure.

A Global Leader in Solar Solutions

As a world-leading solar technology company, LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd. brings cutting-edge solutions and extensive experience, making it an ideal partner for Pakistan’s renewable energy initiatives.

LONGi is a major manufacturer of monocrystalline silicon wafers and solar panels, with high-efficiency products used in large-scale solar projects worldwide. In 2020 alone, the company shipped over 24.53 GW of solar modules globally.

LONGi’s commitment to sustainable production—creating eco-friendly, energy-efficient solar panels that adhere to national standards—aligns perfectly with Pakistan’s efforts to promote renewable energy.

By leveraging its abundant solar resources and strategic location, Pakistan can partner with LONGi Green Energy Technology to attract significant investment and introduce state-of-the-art solar technology to the country.

To build a sustainable future in renewable energy, Pakistan must continue to foster partnerships with global leaders like LONGi. Such collaborations are key to enhancing the country’s technological capabilities, attracting investment, and securing a prominent position in the global renewable energy market.
