Mexico has awarded about 7,411 MW of new solar and wind projects to private developers under a new mixed scheme with the state utility CFE. The reported portfolio is mostly solar at about 6,710 MW, with roughly 700 MW dedicated to wind.
The tender attracted more than 200 bids totaling nearly 38 GW, far above the initial target. The selection process covered about 37 projects from 31 developers. These figures were still sector-reported and awaited formal confirmation from CFE and the energy ministry.
Under the 2025 reforms referenced in the report, CFE must retain at least 54% of grid control, while private firms can compete for the remainder of the market.
