NEDC Installs Solar Street Light in Tertiary Institutions

The NEDC is enhancing safety and energy reliability across Taraba State by installing solar street lights at key institutions. This initiative provides sustainable lighting solutions for locations like Federal University Wukari and Taraba State University, Jalingo.

Solar Street Light Installations in Wukari and Jalingo

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has advanced its development work in Taraba State by installing solar street lights in key educational and healthcare institutions. These installations are a crucial part of a broader push to improve energy infrastructure throughout the region.

Key locations benefiting from the new solar lights include the Federal University Wukari and its teaching hospital, Taraba State University (TSU) in Jalingo, and various city streets. This project ensures continuous illumination, boosting safety and visibility in these vital areas.

Alhaji Goni Alkali, Managing Director of the NEDC, led the team overseeing the project and expressed his satisfaction with its progress and quality. He noted that the solar street light initiative aims to supplement the existing electricity supply in these institutions.

This initiative marks a critical step toward ensuring reliable, sustainable energy for institutions that serve as pillars of education and healthcare in Taraba. By providing an alternative energy source, the project ensures that these institutions and their surrounding communities remain well-lit — even during power outages.

Beyond universities and hospitals, the NEDC has also equipped the Government Day Secondary School in Bali with solar lights. This particular project is vital for the safety of students and staff, ensuring the school premises stay well-lit in the evenings.

Expanding Infrastructure Across Taraba State

The NEDC’s work in Taraba State extends beyond solar street lights. The Commission is also supervising other critical infrastructure projects, including mass housing developments at the Federal Polytechnic Bali, the General Hospital Bali, and a new mega school in Wukari.

In Wukari, the Commission has also focused on enhancing the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit at the Federal University. This upgrade will help the institution remain at the forefront of technological advancement, providing students and staff with the resources they need to excel.

Additionally, the NEDC has completed a warehouse in Jalingo that will serve as a central hub for the Commission’s activities in the state. This new facility will play a key role in supporting the logistics of ongoing and future projects across Taraba.

Mass Housing and Healthcare Projects

The NEDC’s impact in Taraba is also evident in its mass housing initiatives. The Commission is overseeing construction at Federal University Wukari, its teaching hospital, the Federal Government College Wukari, and Government Secondary School Wukari. In Jalingo, the Commission has also installed three solar-powered boreholes at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

These boreholes will provide a reliable source of clean water, which is essential for the hospital’s operations and the well-being of its patients and staff.

The NEDC is also supervising the construction of mass housing units at the Taraba State Polytechnic in Jalingo. This project is part of the Commission’s broader goal of improving living conditions and supporting educational infrastructure in the state.

Overall, the NEDC’s installation of solar street lights and other infrastructure projects in Taraba State represents a major investment in the region’s future. These initiatives provide reliable energy, clean water, and improved living conditions, creating a safer and more vibrant environment for education and healthcare across the state.
