Northern Solar Holdings Bhd has made a powerful debut on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia, signaling strong investor confidence in its renewable energy ambitions. The initial public offering (IPO) was met with overwhelming demand, with the public portion oversubscribed by a staggering 73.20 times after receiving 25,772 applications for 1.47 billion shares.

Northern Solar Holdings IPO: Funding Renewable Energy Growth

Launching on February 6, 2025, the solar energy provider’s shares closed the trading day at 79 sen, a 25% premium over the initial offer price of RM0.63. This successful launch established a market capitalization of RM312.52 million for Northern Solar, affirming its position as a significant player in Malaysia’s green technology sector.

The IPO successfully raised RM42.4 million through the issuance of 67.3 million new shares. These proceeds are strategically allocated to fast-track the company’s growth and solidify its market leadership. A significant majority of the funds, 68.8% or approximately RM29.2 million, is designated for working capital to support its core operations.

Fueling Strategic Expansion in Solar Solutions

The capital injection is set to enhance Northern Solar’s capabilities in the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Beyond bolstering working capital, the IPO proceeds will also be used to repay bank borrowings (13%), fund business expansion initiatives (7.4%), and cover listing expenses (10.8%).

This financial strengthening allows the company to aggressively pursue new projects and expand its operational footprint. The move aligns with Malaysia’s national goal of achieving 20% renewable energy in its power generation mix by 2025, positioning Northern Solar as a key contributor to this sustainable transition.

With M&A Securities serving as the adviser and placement agent for the listing, Northern Solar has successfully navigated its market entry. The successful IPO not only provides the necessary capital for expansion but also enhances the company’s profile as it competes in the rapidly growing global renewable energy market.
