Oman’s North Oman Solar Project Nears Completion
Oman is on the cusp of a significant renewable energy milestone as its North Oman Solar (NOS) project moves into the final stages of construction. As of early March 2026, the project has achieved 95% completion of its tracker and photovoltaic (PV) module installation, signaling that it is rapidly approaching mechanical completion. This development marks a crucial step forward in the Sultanate’s strategic push towards energy diversification and sustainability.
Project Nears the Finish Line of Oman Solar Project
The North Oman Solar project, located at Saih Nahaydah in the country’s northern region, is a key component of Oman’s clean energy ambitions. Developed by OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), a subsidiary of the OQ Group, in partnership with TotalEnergies, the solar plant is on track for full PV module installation by mid-March 2026.
With a dedicated capacity of 128 megawatts, the facility is engineered to supply clean power directly to Petroleum Development Oman’s (PDO) grid. This arrangement underscores a growing trend of integrating renewable energy sources to power traditional energy operations, thereby reducing their carbon footprint. The project is scheduled for full commissioning by the end of 2026.
A Portfolio of Clean Energy Progress in Oman Solar Project
The North Oman Solar project does not stand alone. It is a vital part of a larger, 330 MW renewable energy portfolio being advanced by OQAE and its partners. This portfolio also includes the Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 wind farms. The combined investment across these three pioneering projects exceeds $230 million.
Together, these initiatives are set to significantly expand Oman’s renewable energy capacity. The successful execution of this portfolio, which includes milestones like constructing Oman’s largest wind farm, demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving national energy goals. Furthermore, the projects have emphasized local economic participation, achieving 30% local content by engaging Omani firms.
Powering Oman’s Sustainable Future with Oman Solar Project
The near completion of the North Oman Solar project is more than just an infrastructure achievement; it is a clear indicator of the nation’s strategic direction. By diversifying the energy mix and moving away from a heavy reliance on natural gas for power generation, Oman is enhancing its energy security and aligning with global sustainability targets.
As the final trackers and modules are put in place, the North Oman Solar project stands as a powerful symbol of progress, set to energize the nation’s grid and its green ambitions for years to come.
