CHINT wins EPC contract for Romania’s largest PV station

In a move set to reshape Romania’s energy landscape, global smart energy solutions provider CHINT has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the nation’s largest photovoltaic (PV) power station. The landmark agreement, a strategic partnership with solar developer Econergy, represents a critical step forward in Romania’s pursuit of its ambitious 2030 renewable energy goals and solidifies CHINT’s role as a key player in Europe’s utility-scale solar market.

Under the terms of the agreement, CHINT New Energy will deliver a comprehensive, turnkey solution for the solar mega-park. This full-lifecycle responsibility encompasses everything from initial design and engineering to component procurement, on-site construction, and final commissioning. This integrated approach, drawing on experience from the company’s extensive global project portfolio, is designed to optimize project efficiency and performance, supported by the operational expertise outlined in its 2024 annual report.

This new solar station serves as a cornerstone for Romania’s national decarbonization strategy, which aims to install over 10 GW of solar capacity by 2030. The project significantly contributes to this target, building on the momentum of other recent announcements like a Romania solar energy: Impressive 229 MW Project Unveiled and plans for an even larger Romania solar park: Stunning 1.24 GW Project Launched. The massive injection of clean power will not only help Romania meet its European Green Deal commitments but also bolster its domestic energy security.

A primary challenge for a project of this magnitude is its successful integration into the national electrical grid. The inherent variability of solar power requires advanced infrastructure to maintain stability, a trend noted in recent industry publications like Fractal Energy Storage News. CHINT is well-positioned to address this complexity, offering sophisticated micro-grid solutions designed to manage and balance renewable energy flows, ensuring a reliable supply of power.

The CHINT-Econergy collaboration is emblematic of a powerful investment trend sweeping across Southeastern Europe. The region has become a hotbed for renewable energy development, with significant projects taking root in neighboring countries. This includes the recent addition of an 88MW solar plant in Bulgaria, the Astronergy North Macedonia Solar: Impressive 2024 Launch, and an innovative Moldova solar BESS project: Stunning 60MWh Launch. This flagship project in Romania sets a new benchmark for the region, serving as a compelling model for building a sustainable and secure energy future.
