Romania solar energy: Impressive 229 MW Project Unveiled
Central and Eastern Europe is witnessing a significant surge in renewable energy investment, and developments near Romania’s borders are signaling a transformative era for the entire region. A pivotal project highlighting this momentum is Rezolv Energy’s development of a massive 229 MW photovoltaic plant, a venture that underscores the growing scale and ambition of green energy initiatives impacting the area.
While this specific project, named St. George, is located in northeastern Bulgaria on the site of a former airport in the Silistra Municipality, its proximity to Romania and development by a major regional player make it a landmark event for the neighboring energy market. The solar park, set to become the largest in Bulgaria, will feature nearly 400,000 photovoltaic modules. Rezolv Energy has contracted a consortium of companies—CMC Europe, Solarpro, and Green Solar Energy—to spearhead its construction, with commissioning expected in early to mid-2025.
The St. George project is a key piece of Rezolv Energy’s broader strategy, which includes substantial commitments within Romania itself. The company is concurrently advancing plans for the 1,044 MW Dama Solar project in Romania, which is poised to be one of the largest in Europe. Alongside this, Rezolv is also developing over 1 GW of wind power capacity in the country, cementing its role as a critical investor in Romania’s transition away from fossil fuels.
This cross-border activity illustrates a powerful trend of integrated regional energy development. Large-scale projects like the 229 MW park in Bulgaria not only contribute to Europe’s collective climate goals but also create a ripple effect, boosting investor confidence, strengthening supply chains, and providing a blueprint for future utility-scale solar installations across the region, including in Romania. As these ambitious projects move toward completion, they signal a bright and interconnected future for renewable power in Central and Eastern Europe.
