European Energy Inaugurates Sweden’s First Solar-Wind Hybrid Park
European Energy has officially inaugurated Sweden’s first hybrid park combining solar and wind power. The hybrid park integrates wind power with solar energy, offering a sustainable solution to the country’s energy needs. Such hybrid projects are gaining traction, with countries like Lithuania also exploring similar ventures, as highlighted in a report about solar panel manufacturing in Lithuania.
The hybrid park, located in the Åmot-Lingbo area of Ockelbo municipality in Gästrikland, Sweden, combines solar and wind power to maximize electricity production. The project features three wind turbines (Vestas V162 5.6 MW) and approximately 40,000 solar panels, with a total capacity of 24 MW.
Hybrid Park to Produce 130 GWh Annually with Sweden solar wind hybrid
The hybrid park is expected to produce around 130 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 26,000 Swedish households. The wind turbines have been operational since 2020, while the solar park was completed in 2023 and will begin producing electricity in the coming months.
Marcus Jönsson, European Energy’s country manager in Sweden, highlighted the importance of the hybrid park in addressing Sweden’s growing electricity demand. He noted that the combination of solar and wind power allows for more efficient land use, with solar panels placed between the wind turbines.
“The hybrid park can deliver electricity to the grid more consistently, as solar and wind power often complement each other. When the wind is not blowing, the sun is usually shining, and vice versa,” Jönsson said.
Public Support for the Hybrid Park in Sweden solar wind hybrid
The hybrid park project received strong support from both the local community and the Ockelbo municipality. The area is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and hiking.
Patrik Carlenius, CEO of HedÃ¥sen Fastigheter and property owner in the area, emphasized the positive impact of the project on the local community. “We are proud to contribute to Sweden’s energy transition and to own Sweden’s first hybrid park,” he said. “We believe that renewable energy is the way forward and that this project will benefit both the local community and the country as a whole.”
European Energy’s Commitment to Renewable Energy in Sweden solar wind hybrid
European Energy is a leading developer of renewable energy projects, with a focus on wind, solar, and energy storage. The company has a strong presence in Sweden, where it is currently developing several other renewable energy projects.
“The inauguration of the hybrid park in Ockelbo marks an important milestone for European Energy and for Sweden’s renewable energy sector,” said Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy. “We are committed to developing innovative and sustainable energy solutions that contribute to the global transition to a low-carbon economy.”
