Tenaris Solar Park Romania Powers Călărași Mill with Renewable Energy
Tenaris has launched a 20 MW solar park to power its seamless pipe mill in Călărași, Romania, with green energy. Spanning 38 hectares, the park is expected to generate around 30,000 MWh of electricity annually, meeting 25% of the plant’s power needs.
The project, valued at approximately $31 million, was implemented by the Romanian construction company Electrogrup. This initiative is part of a broader Tenaris strategy to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030, aligning with the global transition toward renewable energy to combat climate change.
Michele Della Briotta, President of Tenaris Europe, highlighted the solar park as a crucial step toward the company’s decarbonization targets. “This project is a key milestone in our path to decarbonization. We have several other projects underway or in the pipeline to reduce emissions and increase efficiency,” said Briotta.
Part of a Broader Decarbonization Strategy
The Călărași solar park is part of Tenaris’s wider commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. Other key initiatives include using 100% renewable energy at the company’s Dalmine mill in Italy, home to a 34 MW solar park, and operating a 50 MW solar park at its facility in Conroe, Texas.
Beyond these solar projects, Tenaris is exploring the use of hydrogen in its manufacturing processes, with a pilot project for hydrogen combustion in the rolling mill burners at its Dalmine plant. The company is also developing a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at its seamless pipe mill in Argentina.
