NY School Districts Join Nexamp Solar to Boost Renewables
In a strategic move to reduce operational costs and champion renewable energy, three school districts across New York State have entered long-term agreements with Nexamp through its community solar program. The districts—Greenville Central, Ballston Spa Central, and Auburn Enlarged City—are collectively projected to save more than $100,000 each year on electricity expenses while supporting the state’s clean energy grid.
The partnership leverages the community solar model, an increasingly popular option for public institutions seeking to achieve sustainability goals without the need for upfront capital investment or on-site equipment installation. By subscribing to a portion of an off-site solar farm, organizations receive energy credits that reduce their utility bills.
Cameron Johnston, Director of Energy Sales at Nexamp, highlighted the program’s alignment with the challenges schools currently face. “We understand how challenging it is right now for school districts all across the country to make every dollar go further,” Johnston stated. “Expenses are rising, while at the same time, there is increasing pressure to operate more sustainably and be better stewards of the environment. Community solar meets all those needs, making savings more easily accessible for individuals and businesses as well as forward-looking school districts.”
Local Projects Powering School Operations
Each district is allocated capacity from a distinct, local solar project tailored to its specific energy consumption needs:
- The Greenville Central School District is subscribed to a 7.6 MW solar facility located in Rosendale, NY.
- The Ballston Spa Central School District will receive energy credits from a 5.5 MW photovoltaic farm within its own town.
- The Auburn Enlarged City School District is connected to a 7.3 MW solar project in Champlain, NY.
These subscriptions not only benefit the schools but also serve as anchor tenancies that support the development of community solar projects, making clean energy accessible to local residents and small businesses. With a portfolio of over 1 GW of generating assets operational or under construction, Nexamp is a key player in expanding this access across the country.
As a vertically integrated leader in the clean energy sector, Nexamp manages the entire project lifecycle, from development and construction to operations. The company’s comprehensive approach aims to build a more equitable energy market, delivering savings and creating jobs while advancing a cleaner, more resilient future.
