Meta continues its substantial investment in renewable energy, securing 250 megawatts (MW) of solar power through a new long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA). This agreement will be supplied by the forthcoming Cypress Knee Solar park, a significant new project set to bolster the clean energy landscape in southeast Arkansas.
Project Profile: The Cypress Knee Solar Park
The PPA centers on the Cypress Knee Solar project, a 250 MW photovoltaic facility slated for construction in Chicot County, near Lake Village. With an expected completion date of 2028, the solar park represents a major step forward for renewable generation in the region. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 43,400 homes, directly contributing to Meta’s ambitious sustainability targets.
A Strategic Alliance for a Greener Grid
This latest agreement marks the third collaboration between Meta and EDPR NA, expanding their total contracted renewable energy portfolio in the United States to a notable 545 MW. For Meta, a leading global corporate offtaker of clean energy, this PPA is crucial for its goal of matching 100% of its annual electricity consumption with renewable sources. Amanda Yang, Meta’s Director of Clean and Renewable Energy, highlighted that such projects not only help Meta achieve its targets but are vital for adding new clean energy capacity to the local grid, enhancing its diversity and resilience.

Driving Local Economic Growth in Chicot County
Beyond its environmental benefits, the Cypress Knee Solar project is poised to be a powerful economic driver for the local community. The project involves a capital investment of approximately $400 million and is anticipated to deliver over $25 million in revenue to Chicot County over its 30-year operational life. This substantial, long-term funding will support essential public services and infrastructure, translating a corporate climate commitment into tangible economic value for Arkansas residents.
