Aramco’s Solar Projects to Power 1.5 Million Homes with New Saudi Solar Capacity by 2028
The development of these solar projects will occur in two phases. The first phase aims to deliver 2.3 GW of electricity by late 2025, with the second phase adding another 3.4 GW by 2028. When fully operational, these facilities will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 1.5 million homes.
The regional breakdown of the new capacity is as follows: Mecca (3 GW), Medina (1.2 GW), Al-Jouf (1 GW), and the Northern Borders (0.5 GW). The environmental impact will be substantial, with the projects expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by over 8 million tons and displace more than 8 million barrels of oil equivalent per year.
