The center’s owner, Abu Bakr Abdalla, remarked on how integral solar has become. “Solar energy has become a necessity in Darfur, and many people are turning to it as an alternative to the unreliable power supply,” he said. Centers like his depend on a global industry that uses highly specialized solar panel manufacturing machines to create the technology now in such high demand.

Beyond electricity, solar is also improving access to another critical resource: water. Abdalla explained that solar-powered water pumps have been installed in some communities, ensuring a steady supply of clean water even when the grid is down.
