Andamur, a leading service provider for transport companies, has advanced its sustainability agenda with the installation of a new solar array at its Guarromán service area in Jaén, Spain. Announced on December 19, 2025, this project marks a significant milestone in the company’s strategic push towards energy self-sufficiency across its network.
Andamur solar panels: Impressive install at Jaén service area
The Guarromán installation is the third Andamur service area to be converted to solar power, following successful projects in La Junquera (Girona) and Pamplona (Navarra). This initiative was supported by financial backing from the European NextGenerationEU funds, administered through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. By deploying photovoltaic solar panels, Andamur is actively reducing its operational reliance on the grid and lowering its carbon footprint.
While specific figures on the system’s capacity have not been released, the objective is to generate sufficient clean energy to power the site’s comprehensive facilities, including its fuelling stations, shop, and restaurant. The project focuses on maximizing onsite clean energy generation to meet the daily demands of the busy transport hub.
Part of a Broader Green Initiative
This installation is a key component of Andamur’s ambitious plan to have 12 of its service areas powered by solar energy by 2025. This rapid expansion mirrors a growing global trend, where regions like Iceland are also experiencing significant solar growth. Future Andamur sites slated for solar conversion include El Límite, Lorca, San Román, and others, demonstrating a deep commitment to sustainable infrastructure. This move is becoming increasingly common across various industries, with businesses like Pickersgill Home Farm also investing in solar to power their operations.
Andamur’s CEO, Miguel Ángel López, commented on the company’s direction: “The installation of solar panels in our service areas is part of our commitment to sustainability and our contribution to the fight against climate change. We are working to ensure that our service areas are energy self-sufficient and that we are using renewable energy to power our operations.” Beyond solar, the company’s sustainability efforts also include promoting biofuels like HVO.
