Romania solar tenders: Impressive 77.6 MW Project Launched

Electrica Group Launches Romania solar tenders for 62.5 MW and 77.6 MW Projects

Romanian energy company Electrica Group is significantly expanding its renewable energy portfolio, launching tenders for the construction of two major solar projects. The company is seeking bids for a 62.5 MW solar power plant in Cluj and a 77.6 MW solar power plant in Dolj. The combined value of these ambitious projects is estimated at RON 478 million (approximately USD 100 million).

The tenders were announced by Electrica Group’s subsidiary, Electrica Producție Energie. According to reports from pv magazine, the deadlines for applications have been set for early 2026, with bids for the 77.6 MW project due by February 12, 2026, and for the 62.5 MW project by February 17, 2026.

Projects Supported by Financing for Romania solar tenders

Both projects have secured crucial financing from the Modernisation Fund, a European Union initiative designed to support member states in their transition to climate neutrality by helping to modernize their energy systems and improve energy efficiency. This funding is a key enabler for the success of Electrica Group’s large-scale solar ambitions.

The Cluj solar power plant will be located in the village of Aghireșu, with an estimated cost of RON 202 million (USD 42.2 million). The larger Dolj solar power plant will be built in the village of Sadova, with an expected cost of RON 276 million (USD 57.7 million). Understanding the Plant Cost Breakdown for such facilities highlights the significant capital investment required for both equipment and construction.

Electrica Group’s Commitment to Renewable Energy and Romania solar tenders

These tenders are part of Electrica Group’s broader strategy to increase its renewable energy capacity and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The company has been actively expanding its green portfolio, with these projects following other recent tenders for a 155 MW plant in Iași and a 54 MW plant in Buzău.

The successful execution of these projects will involve a complex supply chain, starting with the procurement of essential Raw Materials for the photovoltaic panels. The entire Manufacturing Process is a critical phase that determines the efficiency and longevity of the solar farm. Given the 2026 application deadlines, these projects represent a significant, long-term contribution to Romania’s energy future.

Impact on Romania’s and Europe’s Renewable Energy Sector from Romania solar tenders

The development of these solar power plants will have a profound impact, adding over 140 MW of clean energy capacity to Romania’s national grid. This increase will help the country meet its climate targets, reduce its carbon footprint, and decrease its reliance on imported fossil fuels. These initiatives align with broader European energy goals, such as those outlined in the EU Net-Zero Industry Act, which aims to scale up clean technology manufacturing.

Furthermore, the stability of an interconnected European grid means that large-scale renewable projects in one nation can benefit the entire continent. An increased supply of green energy in Romania contributes to the overall decarbonization of the grid, which helps stabilize energy prices and enhance energy security for consumers across the EU, including for homeowners and tenants in Germany.

Electrica Group’s investment is also expected to stimulate local economies by creating skilled jobs in construction, operations, and maintenance. The Basics of Manufacturing and the sophisticated Manufacturing Machines behind the panels are part of a growing industry that provides significant employment opportunities.

With the support of the Modernisation Fund, Electrica Group is taking a major step forward in building a cleaner and more sustainable future for Romania and contributing to the greater European green transition.
