Lehto Group Targets 2026 for Unique Hybrid Energy Project in Finland
Finnish construction firm Lehto Group Oyj is making a decisive pivot into the renewable energy sector, centered around a unique hybrid infrastructure project planned for 2026. The company has acquired the rights to develop a 30 MW electricity storage facility in Kalajoki, Finland, which is strategically designed with the explicit potential to integrate a future solar park.
A Strategic Shift: Lehto Group solar Finland: Unique 2026 Project Planned
Traditionally known for its work in real estate and construction, Lehto Group is leveraging its expertise to build a new energy business. This move is solidified by the Kalajoki project, which will feature a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) connected to a substation engineered to also serve a potential solar farm. According to a report from the company’s Board of Directors, a key objective is to “finalize the agreements and rights related to the solar park,” highlighting the project’s dual-purpose design.
The project timeline targets a construction start in late 2026, with the facility expected to be operational in the first half of 2027. The total investment for the storage component is estimated at approximately €15 million. This development is a cornerstone of Lehto’s broader strategy to generate €25 million in revenue from its energy storage business by 2028.
Fortifying Capabilities with Strategic Partnerships
To bolster its technical capabilities in this new venture, Lehto Group has partnered with Desay Battery to explore the Nordic energy storage market. The collaboration aims to develop up to 200 MWh of storage capacity in the region, focusing on frequency regulation markets and utilizing advanced digital operation and maintenance systems. This partnership enhances Lehto’s ability to execute complex grid-scale projects like the hybrid-ready facility in Kalajoki.
