Mecufi Power Plant Operations Scheduled
The Mecufi power plant is scheduled to begin operations by December 2026, adding approximately 20 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to Mozambique’s national grid. Renco’s Mozambique director, Pier Evangelista, confirmed that the facility is expected to be operational by that date.
The Mecufi project represents a significant step in enhancing the country’s energy capacity. This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to increase renewable energy production in Mozambique, aimed at boosting the energy supply for the growing demand.
Project Specifications
Located in Cabo Delgado province, the Mecufi power plant will utilize solar technology to generate electricity. The 20 MW output is part of broader plans to develop additional renewable energy resources, contributing to national energy goals.
Context in Renewable Energy Development
This development follows global trends in increasing investments in renewable energy infrastructure. With neighboring regions also enhancing solar capacity, such as the impressive 10 MW plant in Malawi, Mozambique’s advances will be crucial for regional energy stability.
