UAE’s GSU launches UAE solar plant in CAR
Abu Dhabi-based Global South Utilities (GSU) has inaugurated a 50-megawatt solar plant in the Central African Republic, marking the largest infrastructure project in the country’s history. The facility is located in Sakaï and is equipped with a 15-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS), aimed at enhancing grid stability and reliability.
According to reports, the project is expected to increase the national electricity generation capacity by more than 60%, provide power to over 300,000 households, and lead to a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by over 50,000 tonnes annually.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by President Faustin-Archange Touadéra. The project received financial backing through concessional financing from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Impact of UAE solar plant on local power supply
The introduction of this solar plant represents a significant boost to the energy infrastructure in the Central African Republic, addressing the country’s ongoing challenges with electricity access. The renewable energy capacity is anticipated to facilitate better power distribution and reliability across the nation, signaling progress toward energy independence.
Partnership and financing details for the UAE solar plant
GSU’s solar project exemplifies international investment in renewable energy within Africa. The involvement of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development underscores a growing trend of collaboration between nations to support sustainable energy initiatives.
