A landmark solar facility in Madison County, Ohio, has officially commenced full commercial operations, marking a significant milestone in corporate renewable energy procurement. The Fox Squirrel Solar project, developed by EDF Renewables North America and Enbridge Inc., is now delivering its full 577 MWac (749 MWdc) capacity to the grid. Spanning the landscape with 1.4 million solar panels and 159 inverters, it stands as one of the largest solar power plants east of the Mississippi River.

Under a series of power purchase agreements, the entirety of the electricity generated by Fox Squirrel Solar will be supplied to Amazon. This arrangement directly supports Amazon’s ambitious Climate Pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. The project is a key component of the tech giant’s portfolio of over 700 renewable energy projects worldwide, which have been instrumental in its efforts to power its global operations with 100% renewable energy.
The successful completion of the project highlights a powerful collaborative effort. Kate OāHair, Senior Vice President for Onshore Development at EDF Renewables, credited the strong partnerships with landowners, local communities, and stakeholders, including development partner Geenex Solar. OāHair emphasized the projectās positive local impact, noting, “the project will provide a significant economic boost to the local economy through the creation of new jobs and expanded tax base.”
Echoing this sentiment, Tom Carbone, Vice President of Power Business Development at Enbridge, described the facility as a crucial step in the company’s own renewable energy strategy. “We’re pleased to bring Fox Squirrel Solar online to support Amazonās renewable energy goals,” Carbone stated, underscoring Enbridge’s commitment to delivering clean energy solutions.
