Brazilian digital infrastructure leader V.tal has forged a strategic partnership with Atiaia Renováveis to secure a dedicated supply of clean energy for its expansive telecommunications network and data center operations. The agreement centers on a self-supply model, establishing a new framework to power V.tal’s energy-intensive infrastructure.
Under the terms of the deal structured in 2024, the two companies have formed energy consortia that will channel electricity from Atiaia’s Sol do Agreste I and Sol do Agreste V solar farms. This initiative is designed to provide a stable and sustainable power source for V.tal’s core business, including the data centers managed by its subsidiary, Tecto. By creating a self-generation structure, V.tal aims to meet the growing energy demands driven by advancements in 5G, artificial intelligence, and widespread data consumption.
This collaboration underscores a growing trend of vertical integration in the energy sector, where major technology and infrastructure firms are directly investing in renewable sources to ensure operational stability and meet sustainability goals. The solar power generated will support V.tal, which operates Brazil’s largest neutral fiber optic network and an extensive system of submarine cables connecting South America to the United States.
The partnership has already secured regulatory approval from Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), the country’s competition authority. However, the transaction remains subject to final clearance from the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) before it can be fully implemented. This move is part of V.tal’s broader strategy to secure renewable energy, which includes similar agreements with other producers to power its expanding digital footprint across Brazil and Colombia.
