Canadian Solar has officially inaugurated its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Mesquite, Texas, a significant milestone backed by a $250 million investment to bolster the domestic solar supply chain. The new manufacturing plant, which began ramping up production in early 2024, is poised to create approximately 1,500 local jobs.
Located at 3000 Skyline Drive, the sprawling 1.5 million-square-foot campus has an annual production capacity of 5 GW. The facility is designed to produce around 20,000 high-efficiency N-Type Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) photovoltaic (PV) modules per day. In a strategic move, the Mesquite site is also set to become Canadian Solar’s first location outside of China capable of producing its own TOPCon solar cells and has plans to add lithium battery production by the end of the year.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the launch, stating, “Canadian Solar’s new $250 million manufacturing plant in Mesquite will bolster Texas’ status as the energy capital of the world and secure our leadership as a global tech hub. I thank Canadian Solar for choosing Texas for their next U.S. business investment and for creating 1,500 new jobs in the region, which will help boost the community for generations to come.”
Operations are already in full swing, with the plant’s first shipments of U.S.-made 700 Wp TOPCon modules delivered to distributor Signature Solar earlier this year. The facility’s output is also secured through significant long-term agreements, including a deal with renewables firm Sol Systems to supply modules for over 1.5 GW of its U.S. project pipeline through 2025.

To support this vertical integration strategy, Canadian Solar is simultaneously developing a 5 GW solar cell production facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This plant will directly supply the Texas module assembly factory, further solidifying the company’s American manufacturing footprint.
This expansion reinforces Canadian Solar’s position as a global leader, having delivered approximately 94 GW of high-quality solar photovoltaic modules worldwide over its 22-year history. The company, which shipped 6.3 GW in the first quarter of 2024, was recently ranked fourth in Wood Mackenzie’s 2024 report on top global manufacturers.
