Ebon Solar LLC, a Delaware-based solar cell manufacturing company, is set to invest $942 million in New Mexico’s solar industry.
Ebon Solar to Build Major Solar Plant in Albuquerque
Ebon Solar plans to build an 834,000-square-foot (77,478 sq m) factory in Albuquerque’s Mesa del Sol industrial area. The facility will be dedicated to the advanced manufacturing of solar cells and is expected to generate more than 900 jobs.

Ebon Solar’s new 834,000 sq ft factory in Albuquerque will boost solar cell production and create over 900 jobs.
Ebon Solar is leveraging the chip technology and financial resources of its parent company, Ebang International Holdings Inc., a Singapore-based semiconductor specialist. In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ebang International announced that Ebon Solar LLC has agreed to purchase approximately 100 acres (40.47 ha) of land in Albuquerque. This acquisition is part of the company’s strategy to diversify its product offerings by leveraging its expertise.
“We have succeeded in making New Mexico a global center for advanced energy manufacturing. Ebon Solar joins other leading companies in embracing New Mexico’s commitment to renewable energy, its talented, dedicated workforce and the opportunities we provide for job training and tuition-free college,” said Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico Governor.
“We are bringing in more opportunities for our families in industries that will help us build a sustainable economy and a sustainable city. This means more high-paying jobs for locals as Albuquerque continues to become a leader in clean energy,” said Tim Keller, Albuquerque Mayor.
AREA Partners with Ebon Solar for Market Evaluation
The Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA) played a crucial role in managing Ebon Solar’s market evaluation, coordinating multiple visits, interviews, and regional data analysis while also assisting in site selection.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ebon Solar to the market; it not only represents a significant capital investment and new jobs to the community but aligns with PNM’s sustainability goals,” said Don Tarry, president and CEO of PNM and the 2024 AREA Board Chair.
Ebon Solar Expansion Will Benefit the Local Economy
Ebon Solar’s expansion supports the region’s economic development objectives by promoting job growth in sustainable industries. This initiative will also strengthen the local economy and bolster Albuquerque’s status as a leader in clean energy.
“We are excited to support Ebon Solar with consideration of their Industrial Revenue Bond application because this is the type of advanced renewable energy manufacturing I want in my district, Bernalillo County and our state. This project is also expected to bring over 900 new jobs to central New Mexico which is a huge win for the region,” said Steven Michael Quezada, District 2 Commissioner.
Ebon Solar is focused on advancing solar manufacturing technology to bridge the technology gap, meet rising demand for domestic renewable energy, and secure a sustainable future.
