Power and Connectivity: Revolutionizing Healthcare in Ghana’s Ashanti Region

Ghana has launched the Power and Connectivity Project under the Solar for Health initiative. This project, valued at $14 million and funded by the World Bank, aims to provide solar power to 70 healthcare facilities in the Ashanti Region. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Energy Development and Access Project, is spearheading this transformative endeavor.

Tackling Energy Issues in Health Facilities Through the Ghana Solar Program

The Power and Connectivity Project addresses the critical issue of inadequate power supply in primary healthcare facilities, which often depend on electricity for essential services. By installing photovoltaic solar systems, the project ensures a stable and sustainable power supply crucial for rural health facilities, where power outages frequently disrupt vital services like vaccine refrigeration, laboratory operations, and electronic health record management.

This initiative is a part of a larger $14 million effort funded by the World Bank, which is dedicated to enhancing healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.
