Hyphen Green Hydrogen Grant Project Funding
Namibia’s Hyphen green-hydrogen project has been selected to receive a proposed $5.93 million reimbursable grant from the African Development Bank’s Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA). The grant is the largest allocation in a proposed $20 million package for four African green-hydrogen projects.
Purpose of the Green Hydrogen Grant
The funding is intended to support feasibility studies, engineering work, and transaction advisory services to advance the project toward investment readiness. Specifically, Hyphen plans to combine large-scale renewable energy generation with electrolysers to produce green hydrogen and ammonia for regional and international markets.
Other Project Allocations for the Green Hydrogen Grant
The other proposed allocations from this $20 million package include:
- Project Ra, Egypt: $3.55 million
- Guelmim Green Hydrogen Valley, Morocco: $5.28 million
- Saldanha Hydrogen Direct Reduced Iron project, South Africa: $5.24 million
Approval Process for the Green Hydrogen Grant
The approval of the grant remains subject to the African Development Bank’s board decision.
Growth of the Green Hydrogen Sector and Grant Opportunities
Investments in the African green hydrogen sector have gained momentum, contributing to a pipeline that now exceeds $30 billion as countries look to harness renewable resources for sustainable energy solutions.
