Azerbaijan is advancing its green energy agenda with the formalization of an Implementation Agreement for a new 30 MW solar power plant in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The project, a strategic partnership between Nobel Energy and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, is a key component of the nation’s effort to enhance energy security and achieve ambitious renewable energy targets.

Under the terms of the agreement, construction is scheduled to commence in late 2025, with the plant expected to be commissioned and operational by 2026. This initiative is designed to directly address local power shortages in Nakhchivan, reducing the region’s reliance on external energy supplies. The project will operate under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with Nobel Energy overseeing the financing, construction, and ongoing operations.

This 30 MW facility is part of a much broader vision, aligning with a memorandum of understanding for a total of 400 MW of solar capacity in Nakhchivan. It also contributes to Azerbaijan’s national goal of generating 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and installing 6,000 MW of green capacity. The nation is leveraging its significant estimated solar potential of 23 GW, with regions like Jabrayil boasting high solar radiation levels of 1,600-1,700 kWh/m² annually.

These large-scale projects are made possible by an industrial ecosystem that transforms basic photovoltaic raw materials into high-efficiency solar modules.
