Siemens Energy Installs Solar Park on New Factory

Recent developments in corporate renewable energy strategy have seen Siemens, the parent company of Siemens Energy, make a significant investment in on-site power generation. The company recently celebrated the grand opening of its expanded manufacturing facility in Pomona, California, which now features a state-of-the-art rooftop solar canopy.

Siemens Energy Installs Solar Park on New Factory in California

The $95 million expansion in Pomona includes a new 100,000-square-foot building dedicated to producing low-voltage electrical equipment. A key feature of this investment is the solar installation, which is engineered to generate 1,638 MWh of clean electricity annually. This output is substantial enough to cover approximately 32% of the new building’s energy consumption, marking a significant step towards sustainable manufacturing operations.

This initiative aligns with a broader corporate trend towards integrating renewable energy directly into industrial sites. Another example is Siemens’ Mitras factory in Mexico, which was inaugurated in 2024 and also utilizes on-site solar power to generate around 800 MWh per year. While these projects highlight Siemens’ commitment to green energy, recent announcements from Siemens Energy have centered on other strategic expansions, such as investing in transformer production in Germany and launching string inverter manufacturing in the United States.

Global Trends in Renewable Energy Adoption

The push by corporations like Siemens to develop their own energy production capacities reflects a wider global movement supported by government incentives. Nations are increasingly creating policies to encourage the adoption of clean energy at residential, commercial, and agricultural levels.

Ireland, for example, demonstrates a robust commitment to this trend. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) offers grants of up to €2,100 to homeowners installing solar PV. This support structure extends to larger projects, with funding available for commercial solar PV systems and agricultural installations. Furthermore, policy changes like implementing a 0% VAT rate on domestic solar panel installations have significantly accelerated growth in the sector, showcasing a proactive approach to building a sustainable energy future.
