Zelestra Advances 27.5 MWdc Klevenow Solar Project in Germany
Zelestra is marking a significant step forward in Germany’s renewable energy landscape with major progress on the construction of its 27.5 MWdc Klevenow solar project. Located in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the project is rapidly moving towards completion, with the first solar modules scheduled to arrive on-site within the next two weeks. Full commercial operation is anticipated by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
Powering the Pomeranian Triangle with Klevenow Solar Project
Once operational, the Klevenow solar facility is set to become a key contributor to the region’s clean energy supply. The plant will generate approximately 28,700 MWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of commercial and industrial customers in the nearby Pomeranian Triangle.
This substantial output will have a significant positive environmental impact, displacing the equivalent of roughly 9,500 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions each year. Furthermore, the project is a boon for the local economy, supporting approximately 40 jobs throughout its construction phase.
Integrating Advanced Energy Storage for Klevenow Solar Project
Looking beyond immediate generation, Zelestra is also developing a 30 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to be integrated with the solar farm. This hybridization will enhance the project’s value by providing greater grid stability and ensuring a more reliable power supply to meet local energy demands, even when the sun isn’t shining.
A Cornerstone of an Ambitious German Strategy: Klevenow Solar Project
The Klevenow project is the first of several major developments for Zelestra in Germany. It represents the beginning of a period of accelerated growth, enabled by the company’s strategic acquisition of East Energy in October 2024. This move has allowed Zelestra to rapidly transition projects from development to the construction phase, leveraging a skilled German team of over 70 professionals based in Hamburg, Berlin, and Rostock.
Robert Hienz, Zelestra’s CEO in Germany, highlighted the project’s importance in the company’s broader vision. “The Klevenow project marks the start of an intensive construction period for Zelestra in Germany,” Hienz stated. “This year, we expect to break ground on more than 120 MW of solar capacity across the five projects we secured through EEG tenders.”
This immediate pipeline is part of a much larger portfolio. Zelestra currently has a total development pipeline in Germany exceeding 2 GW, which includes 25 solar and 15 battery energy storage projects. The progress at Klevenow demonstrates the company’s commitment and capability to deliver on its ambitious goals, playing a pivotal role in advancing Germany’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
