Lightsource bp Partners Kajoni on 500MW German Solar Projects

Lightsource bp has partnered with Kajoni Energie to develop over 500MW of utility-scale solar projects across Germany. Kajoni Energie will identify and prepare sites, while Lightsource bp will take ownership once construction begins.

Major Solar Expansion in Germany

Lightsource bp, a leading solar technology developer, has announced a strategic partnership with Kajoni Energie, a Germany-based renewables developer. The collaboration will develop more than 500MW of utility-scale solar projects across Germany, part of Lightsource bp’s broader strategy to expand its European operations and contribute to the region’s renewable energy growth.

Over the next two to three years, the partners plan to develop solar projects of at least 20 MW each. Kajoni Energie will play the crucial role of identifying suitable project sites of at least 20 hectares and securing the necessary licensing to bring them to a ready-to-build status. Once construction begins, Lightsource bp will take full ownership of each project.

Stephan Jeznita, Head of Business Development for Lightsource bp Germany, expressed confidence in the partnership, highlighting the importance of Kajoni’s deep roots in Lower Saxony, a region with high potential for solar power. “Kajoni is deeply rooted in Lower Saxony, a region with very high potential for solar power,” Jeznita stated. “We are ambitious in growing the German market, and local partners like Kajoni are an ideal addition to our own greenfield development operations across Germany.”

This partnership supports Lightsource bp’s strategic goal of becoming the leading solar developer in Germany, a market it entered just last year in 2023.

Lightsource bp’s Growing European Presence

Lightsource bp has been actively expanding its operations across Europe. Just last month, the company began commercial operations at its 40MW solar project in Poland, a country where it has operated since 2020. Its expansion into Germany marks another key step in its European growth strategy. The timing aligns with Germany’s ambitious goals for its renewable energy sector, as the country aims to provide 80% of its electricity from solar and other renewable sources by 2030. This target is driving significant investment in the sector. Collaborations like this one between Lightsource bp and Kajoni Energie are crucial for helping Germany meet its renewable energy targets and advance the country’s solar market.

Driving Germany’s Renewable Energy Future

As Germany continues its journey toward a more sustainable energy future, the role of solar power is becoming increasingly important. This partnership is a strategic move that supports Germany’s renewable energy targets while strengthening Lightsource bp’s position in the European energy market.

Over the next two to three years, as Kajoni Energie identifies project sites and secures permits, Lightsource bp will prepare to take ownership and begin construction. With its commitment to strategic partnerships, the company is well-positioned to make a substantial impact on Germany’s energy landscape, helping the nation achieve a cleaner, more sustainable future and meet its 2030 goals.
