Mozambique electrification projects to complete 10 initiatives by 2027

Mozambique Electrification Projects Overview

Mozambique’s National Energy Fund (FUNAE) plans to complete 10 electrification projects by the end of June 2027, focusing on projects that are already 60–70% complete. The initiative primarily targets rural electrification, including small off-grid solar plants, to expand electricity access beyond the national grid.

The projects had faced delays due to funding constraints affecting construction and infrastructure maintenance. FUNAE reported that a further 12 projects, currently 30–40% complete, are expected to finish by the end of 2027. One notable delayed project is located in Lúrio, Nampula Province, where FUNAE is renegotiating the contractor’s agreement before work can resume.

The progress on these projects comes as the government seeks to increase energy access in rural areas, where electricity is often limited or non-existent. The focus on renewable energy solutions aligns with global trends towards sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.

Expected Outcomes of Mozambique Electrification Projects

The completion of these electrification projects is expected to significantly improve living conditions by providing reliable electricity. It is anticipated that enhanced electricity access will facilitate economic development and improve educational and health services in the areas served.

Context of Mozambique Electrification Projects

Mozambique has been working on various energy initiatives to boost its electricity generation capabilities and to integrate renewable energy sources. The country’s efforts are focused on overcoming regional energy deficits and ensuring that more citizens have access to electricity.
