Rooftop Solar Schools Initiative Overview
Iran has initiated a national program to equip 12,000 schools with 5-kilowatt rooftop solar systems, with some installations already in progress and equipment secured for thousands more facilities.
Rooftop Solar Schools Project Capacity and Progress
The project is expected to achieve a total capacity of 1,260 megawatts across the designated schools. As of now, work has started on approximately 2,500 solar power plants, with equipment for an additional 5,000 schools prepared for installation.
Rooftop Solar Schools Prioritization and Implementation
Officials have indicated that priority will be given to war-affected schools, boarding schools, border-area schools, and schools in underprivileged regions. The rollout began in June 2026, starting with the installation of a solar system at a technical-vocational school in Tehran. Reports indicate that 12 of Iran’s 31 provinces have confirmed readiness to participate, with a goal to complete the installations by mid-September 2026.
