rPlus Energies Sign PPA for 125MW Pleasant Valley Solar 2

A tripartite partnership between renewable energy developer rPlus Energies, Idaho Power, and Meta has solidified a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Pleasant Valley Solar 2 project. The 125-megawatt (MW) AC facility, located in Ada County, Idaho, represents a significant step forward in corporate renewable energy procurement and the expansion of clean power in the state.

The energy generated will be crucial for Meta’s efforts to support its Kuna data center operations with 100% renewable energy. This collaboration is enabled by Idaho Power’s Clean Energy Your Way – Construction Program, a framework designed to help large corporate clients meet ambitious sustainability goals.

“Efforts like these are important as we continue to support our operations with 100% clean and renewable energy,” stated Urvi Parekh, Global Head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, highlighting the project’s role in the company’s broader objectives.

Adam Richins, Idaho Power Senior Vice President and COO, echoed the sentiment of collaboration. “We’re excited to be able to work with Meta and rPlus Energies through our Clean Energy Your Way program to help them reach their goals while furthering our mission of providing reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean energy to our customers,” he said.

rPlus Energies Sign PPA for 125MW Pleasant Valley Solar 2: Project Scale and Local Economic Impact

Construction on Pleasant Valley Solar 2 is slated to begin in late 2024. The project is expected to create approximately 200 construction jobs and stimulate the regional economy by engaging numerous local vendors. This new facility builds upon the success of its predecessor, the 200 MW Pleasant Valley Solar 1, which is currently under construction and expected to achieve commercial operation in early 2025.

The development team also plans to continue its commitment to community investment. During the project’s first phase, key partners raised $123,000 for the Local First and Energy First scholarships, benefiting students in Ada County attending Boise State University and the College of Western Idaho. This focus on local workforce development and education is expected to carry forward with the second phase.

“We’re excited to be partnering again with Idaho Power and Meta on Pleasant Valley Solar 2,” said Luigi Resta, President and CEO of rPlus Energies. “Strong partnerships make all stages of development and construction smoother, and we certainly have that with these two. We look forward to breaking ground in the coming months and contributing another significant project to Idaho’s renewable energy landscape.”

rPlus Energies, backed by Sandbrook Capital and the Gardner Group, continues to develop a diverse portfolio of utility-scale solar, battery, wind, and pumped storage hydro projects across the United States.
