Somalia solar power tender launched for 55 MWp project

Somalia has launched a competitive tender for a 55 MWp solar power plant paired with a 160 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to reduce reliance on diesel generators. The tender was announced by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and is funded by the World Bank.

The project aims to transform the country’s energy landscape by integrating renewable solar capacity with storage to ensure more stable power delivery. This initiative represents a significant step toward modernizing Somalia’s energy infrastructure and shifting away from its heavy dependence on diesel-fueled generation.
