Solar Capacity Germany Surpasses Milestone
Germany’s installed solar capacity has surpassed 128 GWp, exceeding the country’s 2026 solar expansion target set under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). The Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft (BSW-Solar) reported that the capacity crossed the 128 gigawatt-peak mark as of August 2026.
The term GWp refers to the maximum power that solar systems can produce under ideal conditions. Reports indicate that Germany achieved its 2026 solar capacity goal earlier than anticipated.
New Solar Capacity Installations in Germany
According to BSW-Solar, Germany added approximately 17.5 GW of new solar capacity in both 2024 and 2025. Achieving the 2030 target of 215 GW will require an annual installation rate of roughly 20 GW going forward.
The results have generated optimism about solar energy’s role in the country, although industry experts warn of potential hurdles ahead, highlighting concerns about maintaining the growth pace necessary to meet future targets.
