Cambodia Surpasses Solar Capacity Targets
Cambodia’s installed solar capacity has reached almost 1.5 GW in 2025, surpassing the targets set in its Power Development Master Plan 2022–2040 ahead of schedule. The plan aimed for 705 MW by 2025, 1 GW by 2030, and 1.3 GW by 2035.
Factors Driving Cambodia Solar Capacity Growth
The expansion has been predominantly driven by utility-scale solar projects, although the growth of rooftop solar has been slower. Solar energy now accounts for more than 10% of Cambodia’s electricity generation. Officials from the Electricity Authority of Cambodia expect this share to rise above 12% as additional capacity comes online.
Future Projections for Cambodia Solar Capacity
Further projects anticipated in 2026 could boost the total installed solar capacity to about 1.87 GW by year-end. One significant project, a 930-MW facility scheduled for March 2026, is expected to push the country’s total solar capacity past 2 GW.
