Shawton Energy has acquired an 8.6MW solar project in Pembrokeshire from One Planet Developments, a move that significantly expands its renewable energy portfolio. With planning approval already secured, the 14,000-panel solar farm will generate enough clean electricity to power 2,500 homes annually.
Shawton Energy Expands Solar Portfolio With New Solar Project
Merseyside-based Shawton Energy has secured the 8.6MW solar project in south Wales from One Planet Developments, taking a major step forward in the company’s growth strategy.
Located in Pembrokeshire, the project will feature over 14,000 solar panels capable of powering 2,500 homes each year. Construction is set to begin shortly, with the solar farm expected to start generating energy later this year. Once operational, the project will save more than 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The acquisition comes as British businesses increasingly seek low-cost, long-term renewable energy solutions, especially those that lack the space for on-site solar installations. This project will help them meet sustainability targets while reducing electricity costs.
“The acquisition of this ready-to-build asset from One Planet is a major milestone,” said Jamie Shaw, CEO of Shawton Energy. “This project will support our corporate and industrial clients in their cost reduction and environmental programmes.”
This development reinforces Shawton Energy’s commitment to providing secure and decarbonised energy solutions. After spending nearly a decade growing its on-site generation Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolio, the company is using this project to further strengthen its renewable electricity generation offering.
Commitment to Small-Scale Distributed Infrastructure
The Pembrokeshire solar project is part of Shawton Energy’s long-term strategy to diversify its solar portfolio and expand its small-scale distributed energy infrastructure.
“This is an exciting opportunity to further build, strengthen and diversify our existing solar portfolio,” Jamie Shaw stated. “It demonstrates our commitment to expanding small-scale distributed infrastructure and supporting national and corporate renewable energy targets.”
Robert Wall, Head of Sustainable Private Infrastructure at Lazard Asset Management, shared this view. “We are committed to supporting the development of local, distributed and sustainable energy, and we are pleased to be further supporting Shawton Energy in its continued growth and local investments.”
He emphasised the role of renewable energy in meeting the UK’s rising electricity demand, adding, “This Welsh project provides a clear opportunity to provide UK businesses with the low-cost energy they need to grow.”
Collaboration with One Planet Developments
One Planet Developments was instrumental in bringing the solar project to its ready-to-build stage. James Stoney, its Business Development Director, expressed satisfaction with the partnership: “One Planet is very pleased to have worked with Shawton Energy on this fantastic project. Having developed the site from scratch through to ready-to-build stage, we look forward to seeing Shawton Energy build, own and operate it.”
The Pembrokeshire project is a key part of Shawton Energy’s broader commitment to increasing renewable energy capacity across the UK and supporting the national energy transition. As businesses face rising electricity costs and stricter sustainability targets, the new solar farm will provide long-term benefits by reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
This investment in distributed solar infrastructure directly supports national energy goals, as the UK government has set ambitious renewable energy targets that make projects like this vital to the country’s decarbonisation efforts.
Shawton Energy’s acquisition will supply clean energy to thousands of homes and businesses, reducing both carbon emissions and electricity costs. As the UK continues its transition to a green economy, investments in solar projects like this will remain critical.
