Qcells has successfully completed its Ocotillo Wells Solar project in Borrego Springs, California, which has now begun commercial operations. The project integrates solar power with a battery energy storage system (BESS), with a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) from solar and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage.
Project Features Over 113,000 Qcells Solar Modules
As the largest utility-scale renewable project in San Diego County, Ocotillo Wells showcases Qcells’ expertise in providing comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for California commercial solar and BESS projects.

Beyond designing and building the solar and energy storage infrastructure, Qcells’ EPC team also equipped the facility with over 113,000 of its own solar modules. This combination of solar power generation and battery storage ensures a dependable, eco-friendly energy supply for the grid.
Energy From the Project Will Be Purchased by Meta
Meta, one of the world’s largest corporate buyers of renewable energy, will purchase the power generated by the project. Since 2020, Meta’s global operations have been powered entirely by renewable energy, achieving net zero emissions. The company also aims to reach net zero emissions across its value chain by 2030.
A Milestone for Qcells
The completion of this project marks a significant milestone for Qcells, reinforcing its commitment to advancing clean energy solutions in the U.S.
“We are excited to accomplish the construction of the Ocotillo Wells Solar project. Getting to the finish line on a project like this reflects our dedication to providing energy solutions that support the growth of American energy. We are honored to contribute to the energy landscape and execute another clean energy project that aids America’s energy transition,” says IP Kim, president of Qcells USA.
By integrating solar development, energy storage solutions, EPC services, and module sales, Qcells is helping transform the energy sector. This project plays a crucial role in that mission and in advancing the clean energy transition across the United States.
Job Creation and Economic Impact
Beyond its environmental benefits, the Ocotillo Wells Solar project has significantly boosted the local economy. The project created nearly 250 jobs during its peak construction phase, leading to hundreds of direct and thousands of indirect opportunities across logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, and construction. This impact highlights Qcells USA’s role as a vital employer in the communities where it operates.
The Ocotillo Wells Solar project not only advances renewable energy infrastructure but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth, making it a significant achievement for both Qcells and the San Diego County region.
