Floating Solar Projects Not Included in World Bank’s $150M Uzbekistan Financing

The World Bank approved $150 million in funding for Uzbekistan on June 17, 2026. This financing, from the International Development Association, is dedicated to supporting the Second Phase of the Rural Infrastructure Development Program (RIDP), aimed at improving public infrastructure and services in rural areas.

The RIDP’s total budget reaches $340 million, with funding contributions from the World Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the Uzbekistan government. The program specifically targets six regions: Andijan, Ferghana, Namangan, Jizzakh, Syrdarya, and Tashkent, and will be managed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This initiative does not include floating solar projects, contrary to some claims. The World Bank has not announced any financing package specifically for floating solar developments in Uzbekistan. Instead, relevant World Bank projects concerning floating solar are located in the Kyrgyz Republic, where an initiative aims to diversify hydropower resources.
